Sketchbooks

Much of my work is place based, not so much as a landscape but using a locale to tell a story I wish to tell. As part of my preparation, I often go on site to sketch and take notes. Capturing the light and the color, I can often later recapture the smell, the feel of the air and the sounds. With those memories and notes, I attempt to translate elements into fiber using paper, fabric and stitch, not trying to reproduce the image but to communicate the essence of the place. I then mount both pages from the sketch book onto wood stained with ink.
